Oh, I’m sorry to hear about that. There are a few things that help with Uric Acid (the main culprit that causes Gout) and the most effective one I’ve seen is cherries. It seems too simple, but cherries naturally help the body metabolize Uric Acid quickly and efficiently (often giving relief in as little as a few days).

Of course, there’s also the good points of avoiding rich foods that cause a surge in the Uric Acid, too. has a pretty good list including protein, sugar, fats, alcohol, etc.
Good luck to you both!

100% cherry juice or cherries everyday. It neutralizes the uric acid which causes gout.

Here’s one: . It’s a natural herb combination. I took it for several months. While it’s not a cure, it is helpful in my opinion, plus they do provide some good info. on what to eat and what not to eat.

Ask grandma to drink lots of water daily, 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight.

There are a number of herbs that have been used historically to drain uric acid via the kidneys such as Joe Pye Weed and celery seed. There are also topical creams that contain essential oils that reduce the pain of gout and also aid in the break down of uric acid.

You really don’t need a variety of natural herbs. It is the alkalinity of cherry fruit extract that is effective for dissolving the uric acid that causes pain in gout. The more cherry fruit extract, the better.

Go to your local health food store and check out:
Enzymatic Therapy Cherry Fruit Extract pills, or
Solaray Tart Cherry capsules

Most cherry juices and extracts are high enough in sugar that its not great to take large amounts.
